Crucifixion. 90” x 48”

Wooden panel, Egg tempera, Gold leaf, embossing.

The composition of this crucifix resembles the work of unknown Umbrian artist of 13 century, however, the figure of Christ is painted in Byzantine style, which pre-dates Romanesque art. In this image Royal Blue, the color of the Glory of God, is used instead of brown color of wood, symbolizing that in Crucifixion the Glory of God had mystically limit itself to the body of a Cross.

The Holy Face of Christ “Acheiropoieton”

(Greek: Not Made by Hand of Man) 20” x 25”. Mosaic. Marble, Venetian glass and Gold tesserae.

According to ancient Eastern tradition, the ruler of Syrian city Edessa named Abgar, being sick with leprosy, sent his servant to ask Christ to come and heal him. Instead, Christ wiped his face with a towel on which His Divine image miraculously appeared. This image then has been sent to Abgar, who was eventually healed from leprosy and baptized by the disciple Thaddeus, Apostle of the 70.

This story should not to be confused with stories of the Veil of Veronica or the Shroud of Turin.

Annunciation 1. 20” x 23”.

Wooden panel, Egg tempera.

This image of Annunciation is made in Paleo-Christian Style, resembles images from Roman Catacombs and the church of Santa Maria Antiqua in Rome. The images in this style are much closer to Classic Antiquity than Byzantine or Romanesque iconography, and once served as an inspiration to many artists of Italian Renaissance.

Annunciation 2.  20’ x 24”.

Wooden panel, Egg tempera.

This image of the Annunciation is made in Coptic iconographic style as it can be observed in churches of Al-Surian (Egypt), 7-th Century AD.

Unlike Byzantine or Russian iconographic schools, Coptic iconography became almost forgotten through the centuries. This icon was made as a modest attempt to revive this old style in contemporary reality.

Christ Emmanuel. 15 ½” x 31”.
