Vladimir Grigorenko was born in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine
in 1965.
In 1987 he obtained a Masters
Degree in Mechanical Engineering and at the same time studied Fine Arts at Dnepropetrovsk State University
from 1983 to 1990.
As every painter, Vladimir was searching for ways to express
his comprehension of Truth in his art. In his studies, he came across a
traditional Orthodox Iconography. And one more question - what is this Truth?
The answer was founded in 1991, when Vladimir
made his first icons after a several years
professional work in Fine Art. It was also the year, when Vladimir was baptized in the Orthodox Church in Dnepropetrovsk.
Under the Communist Government, Ukraine was
not exactly a welcoming place for a would-be iconographer. There were no
local schools of iconography, no specialists. That is why he had to consult
the Moscow Spirit
Academy (Zagorsk,
Russia) and St. Tikhon's Orthodox Institute of Theology, (Moscow, Russia).
But the most important events which decided his
life as an iconographer, were two meetings with the world known iconographer
Archimandrite Zinon (Theodor)
in his studio near Pskov,
Russia.
Before 1996 Vladimir combined his works in Fine Arts
and iconography, participating in a number of Ukrainian and International
exhibition. He collaborated with a variety of Art Galleries
and created a number of icons for churches and private collections. The
Ukrainian newspaper "Telenedelya" printed
a big article about Mr. Grigorenko.
Now Mr. Grigorenko
is well known as an artist, iconographer, and restorer of ancient icons. Two
of his artworks are part of a collection in the Dnepropetrovsk State Museum
of Art. His painting and iconography are found in Russia,
Ukraine, United States, Germany,
Italy, Sweden, Israel,
Kazakhstan, Cyprus and Japan.
Mr. Grigorenko
resides in Dallas, Texas
where he is engaged to create the iconostasis, murals and all other interior
adornments for the newly built Saint Seraphim
Orthodox Cathedral (Orthodox Church in America ).
